314th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 314th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 15 August 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 314th Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. It was activated on 25 August 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. The battalion was reorganized and redesignated as the 314th Glider Field Artillery Battalion on 15 August 1943. During World War II, the unit participated in major airborne operations, including the Sicily and Normandy campaigns, Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands, and the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. The battalion provided critical artillery support during these operations, contributing to the division’s success in several key engagements. Following the end of hostilities, the 314th was inactivated on 15 December 1948 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
