The 314th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 314th Field Artillery and assigned to the 80th Division. It was organized on 29 August 1917 at Camp Lee, Virginia. The unit served in France during World War I and was demobilized on 7 June 1919 at Camp Lee, Virginia. It was reconstituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 314th Field Artillery and assigned to the 80th Division. The unit was reorganized and redesignated several times, eventually becoming the 314th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. During World War II, the battalion participated in campaigns including Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe.
