Unit History

The 301st Field Artillery Battalion was originally constituted in the National Army on 5 August 1917 as the 301st Field Artillery and assigned to the 76th Division. It was organized at Camp Devens, Massachusetts, and served during World War I. The unit was demobilized on 9 January 1919 at Camp Devens. It was reconstituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 301st Field Artillery and assigned again to the 76th Division. The unit was ordered into active military service on 15 June 1942 and reorganized at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. On 15 August 1942, it was redesignated as the 301st Field Artillery Battalion. The battalion participated in World War II campaigns as part of the 76th Infantry Division. After the war, the unit was inactivated on 14 December 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
