Unit History
The 313th Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 313th Field Artillery and assigned to the 80th Division. It was organized on 29 August 1917 at Camp Lee, Virginia. The regiment served in France during World War I, participating in the Meuse-Argonne campaign. After the war, the unit was demobilized on 7 June 1919 at Camp Lee, Virginia. The regiment was reconstituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 313th Field Artillery and assigned again to the 80th Division. It was reorganized in December 1921 with headquarters at Richmond, Virginia. The regiment underwent several reorganizations and redesignations over the years, including service during World War II, where it was redesignated as the 313th Field Artillery Battalion and participated in campaigns in Europe. The unit has since undergone further changes in designation and structure as part of the U.S. Army’s evolving artillery organization.
