Unit History
The 322nd Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 322nd Field Artillery and assigned to the 82nd Division. It was organized on 2 September 1917 at Camp Gordon, Georgia. The regiment served in France during World War I, participating in the St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Lorraine campaigns. After the war, the unit was demobilized on 18 May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey.
The regiment was reconstituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 322nd Field Artillery and assigned again to the 82nd Division. It was reorganized in December 1921 at Columbus, Ohio. During World War II, the regiment was reorganized and redesignated on 15 August 1942 as the 322nd Field Artillery Battalion and relieved from assignment to the 82nd Division. It was inactivated on 15 March 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
The 322nd Field Artillery underwent several subsequent reorganizations and redesignations, serving in various capacities within the U.S. Army Reserve. Its lineage reflects a history of service in both world wars and continued contributions to the Army’s artillery capabilities.
