Unit History

The 31st Tank Company was a unit of the United States Army organized as part of the National Guard. It was federally recognized on 3 June 1921 at Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The company was an element of the 43rd Division and served as a tank unit during the interwar period. The 31st Tank Company was inducted into federal service on 24 February 1941 as part of the mobilization for World War II. On 1 April 1941, the unit was redesignated as Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion. The 192nd Tank Battalion, including the former 31st Tank Company, was deployed to the Philippines, where it participated in the defense of Bataan during the early months of the Pacific War.
