34 Tank Company 1940–1947 (World War II) The 34 Tank Company was a unit of the United States Army National Guard, originally organized in the interwar period. It was federally recognized and based in the state of Washington. In September 1940, as part of the pre-World War II mobilization, the 34 Tank Company was inducted into federal service and redesignated as Company A, 194th Tank Battalion. The battalion was subsequently deployed to the Philippines, where it became part of the American forces defending the islands during the Japanese invasion. The 194th Tank Battalion, including the former 34 Tank Company, fought in the Battle of Bataan and endured the Bataan Death March following the surrender in April 1942. The unit was inactivated after the fall of the Philippines, with many of its members enduring captivity as prisoners of war.
