Unit History

The 28th Tank Company was a unit of the United States Army National Guard. It was organized and federally recognized on 1 March 1921 at Decatur, Illinois. The company was an element of the 33rd Division and served as a tank unit during the interwar period. In 1940, as part of the Army’s reorganization and expansion prior to World War II, the 28th Tank Company was redesignated as Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion. The 192nd Tank Battalion, including the former 28th Tank Company, was mobilized for active federal service on 25 November 1940. The battalion was deployed to the Philippines, where it participated in the defense of Bataan during the early months of World War II. Many members of the unit became prisoners of war following the fall of Bataan in April 1942. Sources: Wikipedia. (n.d.). 192nd Tank Battalion.
