28 Tank Company 1940–1947 (World War II) The 28 Tank Company was a unit of the United States Army National Guard, originally organized in the interwar period as part of the Pennsylvania National Guard. During World War II, the company was federalized and redesignated as Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion. The 192nd Tank Battalion, including the former 28 Tank Company, was deployed to the Philippines in late 1941. The battalion participated in the defense of the Bataan Peninsula following the Japanese invasion. After months of intense combat and deprivation, the unit was forced to surrender in April 1942. Many members of the company endured the Bataan Death March and subsequent imprisonment as prisoners of war. The battalion was inactivated following the end of hostilities.
