96th Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 96th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army and activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During World War II, the battalion was equipped as a 155mm howitzer unit and assigned to the 34th Infantry Division. It participated in major campaigns in the European Theater, including the North African and Italian campaigns. The battalion saw action in Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley. Following the end of hostilities, the 96th Field Artillery Battalion was inactivated on 26 October 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
