Unit History

The 85th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 85th Field Artillery. It was redesignated as the 85th Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 5th Infantry Division on 16 October 1939. The unit was activated on 2 October 1939 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. During World War II, the 85th Field Artillery Battalion participated in several campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of the war, the battalion was inactivated on 20 September 1946 at Camp Campbell, Kentucky.
