Unit History

The 105th Field Artillery Regiment was originally constituted in the New York National Guard as the 3rd Regiment of Artillery on 1 March 1886. It was organized from existing units and later redesignated as the 1st Regiment, Field Artillery, New York National Guard, on 1 September 1917. During World War I, the regiment was federalized and assigned to the 27th Division, participating in major campaigns in France. After the war, the unit was demobilized but later reorganized and federally recognized as the 105th Field Artillery Regiment in 1921. The regiment was again activated for federal service during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, including campaigns in the Philippines. Following the war, the unit returned to state control and has since undergone several reorganizations, continuing its service as part of the New York Army National Guard. Sources: GlobalSecurity.org.
