104 Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 104th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 24 June 1921 in the National Guard as the 104th Field Artillery and assigned to the 27th Division. It was organized and federally recognized on 1 April 1922 at New York, New York. The unit was inducted into federal service on 15 October 1940 at New York as part of the prewar mobilization. During World War II, the battalion was reorganized and redesignated as the 104th Field Artillery Battalion on 1 February 1942. It served with the 27th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater, participating in campaigns including the Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific, and Ryukyus. The battalion was inactivated on 31 December 1945 in Japan following the end of hostilities.
