9 Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 9th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army and activated on 1 June 1940 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as part of the 3rd Infantry Division. During World War II, the battalion participated in major campaigns including North Africa (Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia), Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The unit provided critical artillery support throughout these operations, contributing to the division’s reputation for rapid and effective maneuver. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the battalion was inactivated on 20 September 1946 in Germany.
