4th Field Artillery Regiment 1914–1921 (World War I) The 4th Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 17 June 1916 in the Regular Army and organized on 1 June 1917 at Camp Robinson, Wisconsin. During World War I, the regiment was assigned to the 3rd Division and later the 4th Division, serving primarily as a training and replacement unit. It did not see combat as a regiment during the war but contributed personnel to other units engaged in overseas operations. 1922–1939 (Interwar Period) Following World War I, the 4th Field Artillery Regiment was assigned to various posts and underwent several reorganizations. The regiment was stationed at different locations, including Fort D.A. Russell, Wyoming, and participated in peacetime training and maneuvers, maintaining readiness as part of the Regular Army’s field artillery branch. 1940–1947 (World War II) During World War II, the 4th Field Artillery Regiment was broken up, and its elements were reorganized and redesignated as separate battalions. These battalions served in various theaters, including the European and Pacific Theaters, participating in major campaigns such as Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe, and the Pacific campaigns.
