10th Field Artillery Regiment 1914–1921 (World War I) The 10th Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army and organized on 1 June 1917 at Douglas, Arizona. Assigned to the 3rd Division, the regiment deployed to France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces. It participated in major campaigns including Aisne, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Champagne 1918, and Lorraine 1918. The regiment earned distinction for its actions during the Second Battle of the Marne, where it played a critical role in supporting infantry advances. Following the Armistice, the regiment returned to the United States and was stationed at various posts during the interwar period. 1940–1947 (World War II) During World War II, the 10th Field Artillery Battalion (as it was redesignated in 1940) remained assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division. The battalion participated in all major campaigns of the division, including North Africa (Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia), Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The 10th Field Artillery provided crucial fire support during amphibious assaults and sustained ground operations, earning a reputation for accuracy and reliability. After the end of hostilities, the battalion was inactivated on 20 September 1946 in Germany. 1948–1957 (Early Cold War / Korea) The 10th Field Artillery Battalion was reactivated on 1 August 1946 at Fort Benning, Georgia, and continued its service with the 3rd Infantry Division. During the Korean War, the battalion deployed to Korea and participated in multiple campaigns, including the UN Defensive, UN Offensive, CCF Intervention, First UN Counteroffensive, CCF Spring Offensive, UN Summer-Fall Offensive, Second Korean Winter, Korea Summer-Fall 1952, Third Korean Winter, and Korea Summer 1953. The battalion provided continuous artillery support throughout the conflict, contributing to the division’s combat effectiveness. Following the armistice, the unit remained active as part of the division’s peacetime structure.
