6 Bomber Command 1940–1947 (World War II) The 6 Bomber Command was established as part of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Activated in 1941, it was assigned to the Sixth Air Force and headquartered in the Panama Canal Zone. The command’s primary mission was to conduct antisubmarine warfare and defend the Panama Canal, a critical strategic asset for Allied operations. Throughout the war, 6 Bomber Command oversaw bomber units tasked with patrolling the Caribbean and Pacific approaches to the canal, engaging enemy submarines, and providing air support for regional defense. The command played a vital role in securing Allied shipping lanes and deterring Axis naval activity in the region. Following the end of hostilities, 6 Bomber Command was inactivated in 1946 as part of the postwar drawdown of forces in the Caribbean theater. References (AMA) Wikipedia contributors.
