6th Infantry Regiment 1940–1947 (World War II) The 6th Infantry Regiment, originally constituted in 1812, was an active participant in World War II. During the conflict, the regiment was assigned to the 1st Armored Division and saw extensive service in the North African and Italian campaigns. The regiment landed in North Africa in 1942, participating in the Tunisia Campaign, and later took part in the invasion of Italy, including the battles of Anzio and the drive to Rome.
