Unit History

The 6th Infantry Regiment was first constituted on 11 January 1812 in the Regular Army as the 11th Infantry and organized in May 1812 in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Connecticut. It was consolidated in May–October 1815 with the 25th, 27th, and 29th Infantry (all constituted in 1812), and the consolidated unit was designated as the 6th Infantry. The regiment participated in numerous conflicts, including the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War, the Civil War, the Indian Wars, the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Throughout its history, the 6th Infantry Regiment has undergone several reorganizations and redesignations, serving in various capacities and locations.
