Unit History

The 5th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Bobcats," was first constituted on 12 April 1808 in the Regular Army as the 5th Infantry. It was organized between May and July 1808 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The regiment participated in the War of 1812, serving in several key battles, and later took part in the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, and the Indian Wars. During the Spanish-American War, the regiment served in Cuba. In the 20th century, the 5th Infantry Regiment was involved in both World Wars, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
