203rd Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft) 1940–1947 (World War II) The 203rd Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft) was a Missouri National Guard unit originally organized as the 2nd Missouri Infantry. It was converted and redesignated as the 203rd Coast Artillery (AA) Regiment in 1924. Mobilized for federal service on 6 January 1941, the regiment was tasked with providing anti-aircraft defense for key installations in the United States during the early years of World War II. The 203rd was later broken up in 1944, with its elements reorganized as separate anti-aircraft artillery battalions to better meet the evolving needs of the Army’s air defense mission. These battalions continued to serve in various capacities through the end of the war, participating in the defense of the continental United States and overseas operations. The regiment’s lineage and honors were carried forward by successor units in the Missouri Army National Guard following the war.
