241st Coast Artillery Regiment (Harbor Defence) 1940–1947 (World War II) The 241st Coast Artillery Regiment was a Massachusetts National Guard unit responsible for harbor defense in the Boston area. Originally organized in the early 20th century, the regiment was federalized on 16 September 1940 as part of the U.S. Army’s mobilization for World War II. Assigned to the Harbor Defenses of Boston, the 241st operated coastal artillery batteries, manning fixed gun emplacements and searchlights to protect against enemy naval threats. The regiment remained on active duty throughout the war, providing critical defense for the northeastern seaboard. Following the end of hostilities, the 241st Coast Artillery Regiment was inactivated on 1 January 1946 as the Army restructured its coastal defense forces.
