117th Field Artillery Regiment 1940–1947 (World War II) The 117th Field Artillery Regiment, originally part of the Alabama National Guard, was inducted into federal service on 25 November 1940 as part of the U.S. Army’s mobilization for World War II. The regiment was assigned to the 31st Infantry Division and underwent training at various locations in the United States before deploying overseas. During the war, the 117th Field Artillery participated in campaigns in the Pacific Theater, including New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. The regiment provided critical artillery support during amphibious assaults and jungle operations. Following the end of hostilities, the unit was inactivated on 12 December 1945 at Camp Stoneman, California. 1948–1957 (Early Cold War / Korea) After World War II, the 117th Field Artillery Regiment was reorganized and federally recognized on 25 November 1946 as part of the Alabama National Guard. During the Korean War era, the regiment remained stateside, focusing on training and readiness missions in support of national defense requirements.
