Unit History

The 117th Field Artillery Regiment was originally constituted in the National Guard of the United States as the 1st Field Artillery, Tennessee National Guard, and was organized in 1917. The unit was redesignated as the 117th Field Artillery and assigned to the 30th Division during World War I. The regiment participated in major campaigns in France, including the Ypres-Lys and Somme Offensive. After World War I, the unit was demobilized but later reorganized and federally recognized in the interwar period. During World War II, the 117th Field Artillery was again activated and served in the European Theater, supporting Allied operations.
