The 205th Infantry Regiment was constituted during World War II as part of the Army of the United States. It was activated on 15 July 1943 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and assigned to the 41st Infantry Division. The regiment primarily served as a training and replacement unit within the continental United States, preparing soldiers for overseas deployment. The 205th Infantry Regiment did not see combat as a unit during the war. It was inactivated on 15 September 1945 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, following the end of hostilities.
