200th Infantry Regiment 1940–1947 (World War II) The 200th Infantry Regiment was originally a New Mexico National Guard unit that was federalized in January 1940 and redesignated as the 200th Coast Artillery (AA) Regiment. The regiment was deployed to the Philippines in September 1941, where it was tasked with air defense of Clark Field and other key installations on Luzon. Following the Japanese invasion in December 1941, the 200th and its sister unit, the 515th Coast Artillery, fought in the defense of Bataan. After months of intense combat and dwindling supplies, the regiment was surrendered with the rest of the Bataan garrison in April 1942. Many members of the 200th endured the Bataan Death March and subsequent imprisonment as prisoners of war. The regiment was inactivated following the end of World War II, and its lineage was later perpetuated by successor units in the New Mexico National Guard.
