Unit History

The 200th Infantry Regiment was originally constituted in the New Mexico National Guard as the 111th Cavalry Regiment in 1921. In 1940, the unit was converted and redesignated as the 200th Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft), and it was federalized for service in World War II. The regiment was deployed to the Philippines in 1941, where it played a significant role in the defense of Bataan during the Japanese invasion. After the fall of Bataan in April 1942, many members of the regiment became prisoners of war and endured the Bataan Death March. The 200th Infantry Regiment was later reorganized and redesignated several times, continuing its service in the New Mexico Army National Guard.
