Unit History
14th Coast Artillery Regiment (Harbor Defence)
1940–1947 (World War II)
The 14th Coast Artillery Regiment was constituted in the Regular Army on 27 February 1924 and organized on 1 July 1924 at Fort Worden, Washington, as part of the Harbor Defenses of Puget Sound. During World War II, the regiment was responsible for manning coastal artillery batteries and providing harbor defense for the Puget Sound area, safeguarding critical naval installations and shipping lanes from potential enemy attack. The regiment remained stationed in Washington throughout the war, focusing on coastal defense operations rather than overseas deployment. Following the end of World War II, the 14th Coast Artillery Regiment was inactivated on 1 April 1945 at Fort Worden, as advances in military technology and the diminished threat to U.S. coastlines led to the reorganization and reduction of coastal artillery units.
