Unit History

10th Coast Artillery Regiment (Harbor Defence) 1940–1947 (World War II) The 10th Coast Artillery Regiment was constituted in the Regular Army on 27 February 1924 and organized on 1 July 1924 at Fort Adams, Rhode Island. The regiment was responsible for the harbor defenses of Narragansett Bay, providing coastal artillery protection against potential naval threats. During World War II, the 10th Coast Artillery operated and maintained coastal gun batteries, searchlights, and fire control systems as part of the Eastern Defense Command. The regiment was inactivated on 1 April 1945 as the threat to the U.S. coastline diminished and coastal artillery units were phased out in favor of more modern defenses.
