119th Field Artillery Regiment 1914–1921 (World War I) The 119th Field Artillery Regiment was organized in 1917 as part of the Michigan National Guard and assigned to the 32nd Division. The regiment was federalized for service in World War I, deploying to France with the American Expeditionary Forces. It participated in major campaigns including the Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne, Meuse-Argonne, and Champagne 1918 offensives. Following the Armistice, the regiment returned to the United States and was demobilized in 1919. 1922–1939 (Interwar Period) Reconstituted in the Michigan National Guard, the 119th Field Artillery Regiment was federally recognized in 1921. During the interwar years, the regiment maintained its readiness through annual training and state duties, remaining an integral part of the 32nd Division. 1940–1947 (World War II) The regiment was inducted into federal service in October 1940 as part of the prewar mobilization. During World War II, the 119th Field Artillery was reorganized and redesignated as the 119th Field Artillery Battalion, continuing its service with the 32nd Infantry Division. The battalion saw extensive combat in the Pacific Theater, participating in campaigns in New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon. After the war, the unit was inactivated in Japan in February 1946.
