Unit History

The 122nd Field Artillery Regiment was originally constituted in the Illinois National Guard as the 7th Infantry Regiment in 1893. The unit was mustered into federal service during the Spanish-American War and later served on the Mexican border in 1916. During World War I, the regiment was redesignated as the 122nd Field Artillery and assigned to the 33rd Division, participating in major campaigns including the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. After the war, the regiment returned to state control and was reorganized several times throughout the 20th century. The 122nd Field Artillery Regiment has continued to serve as part of the Illinois Army National Guard, supporting both state and federal missions. Sources: GlobalSecurity.org.
