819 Tank Destroyer Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion was constituted on 25 November 1941 and activated on 15 December 1941 at Camp Bowie, Texas. Initially equipped with self-propelled tank destroyers, the battalion trained extensively before deploying to the European Theater of Operations. The 819th landed in France in September 1944 and was attached to various infantry divisions as it advanced through France and into Germany. The battalion participated in several campaigns, including Rhineland and Central Europe, providing critical anti-armor support during the Allied push into German-held territory. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion was inactivated on 30 October 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
