4th Tank Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 4th Tank Battalion was constituted on 28 May 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 1 June 1942 at Camp Bowie, Texas. The 4th Tank Battalion participated in several major campaigns, including the battles of Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, providing critical armored support to Marine infantry units during amphibious assaults and inland operations.
