Unit History

The 4th Medical Battalion was constituted on 23 March 1925 in the Regular Army as the 4th Medical Battalion and assigned to the 4th Division. It was organized in August 1940 at Fort Benning, Georgia. During World War II, the battalion provided medical support to the 4th Infantry Division, participating in major campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The unit was inactivated on 5 March 1946 at Camp Butner, North Carolina. It was later reactivated and has continued to serve as a key medical support unit within the division, providing essential medical care and evacuation services during both peacetime and combat operations.
