4th Medical Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 4th Medical Battalion was constituted on 1 January 1942 in the Army of the United States and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division. It was activated on 1 February 1942 at Fort Benning, Georgia. The battalion provided medical support to the division throughout its training and combat operations. During World War II, the 4th Medical Battalion participated in major campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The battalion played a critical role in casualty evacuation and medical care during the division’s assault landings on Utah Beach and subsequent operations across France and Germany. Following the end of hostilities, the battalion was inactivated on 5 March 1946 at Camp Butner, North Carolina.
