11th Tank Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 11th Tank Battalion was constituted on 13 January 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 11th Tank Battalion and assigned to the 10th Armored Division. It was activated on 15 July 1942 at Fort Benning, Georgia. The battalion trained extensively before deploying to the European Theater of Operations. As part of the 10th Armored Division, the 11th Tank Battalion participated in several major campaigns, including Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace (notably the Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe. The battalion played a significant role in the relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, providing critical armored support to besieged American forces. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the battalion was inactivated on 13 October 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
