Unit History
The 11th Tank Battalion was constituted on 13 January 1941 in the Regular Army as the 11th Tank Battalion and activated on 15 June 1941 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The battalion was assigned to the 10th Armored Division and participated in several major campaigns during World War II, including Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of the war, the 11th Tank Battalion was inactivated on 13 October 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. The unit was later redesignated and underwent several reorganizations as part of the Army’s evolving armored forces structure.
