The 101st Infantry participated in several major campaigns, including Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Ile de France 1918, Lorraine 1918, and Champagne 1918. After the Armistice, the regiment returned to the United States and was demobilized in April 1919. 1922–1939 (Interwar Period) Following World War I, the 101st Infantry Regiment was reorganized and federally recognized as part of the Massachusetts National Guard. During the interwar years, the regiment maintained its readiness through annual training and state duties, remaining an integral part of the 26th Infantry Division. 1940–1947 (World War II) The 101st Infantry Regiment was inducted into federal service on 16 January 1941 as part of the prewar mobilization. Assigned to the 26th Infantry Division, the regiment trained extensively before deploying to the European Theater. The 101st Infantry landed in France in September 1944 and participated in the Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns. The regiment played a significant role in the Battle of the Bulge and subsequent operations in Germany. Following the end of hostilities, the regiment was inactivated on 3 January 1946 in Austria.
