Unit History

The 85th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 31 July 1918 in the National Army and assigned to the 18th Division. It was organized in September 1918 at Camp Travis, Texas. The regiment did not see combat during World War I and was demobilized on 13 February 1919 at Camp Travis. The 85th Infantry Regiment was reconstituted on 24 March 1923 in the Regular Army and assigned to the 10th Division (later redesignated as the 10th Mountain Division). During World War II, the regiment was activated on 15 July 1943 at Camp Hale, Colorado, and participated in the Italian Campaign, including the North Apennines and Po Valley campaigns.
