Unit History

The 120th Infantry Regiment was constituted in the North Carolina National Guard as the 3rd Infantry Regiment and organized in 1877. It was redesignated as the 120th Infantry Regiment in 1917 and assigned to the 30th Division. During World War I, the regiment served in France and participated in major campaigns, including the Ypres-Lys and Somme Offensive. In World War II, the 120th Infantry Regiment was again activated and served with distinction in the European Theater, notably participating in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns.
