Unit History

The 111th Infantry Regiment traces its origins to the colonial era, with its earliest elements organized in 1747 as part of the Associators in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The unit served in the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War, where it was mustered as the 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry. In 1917, the regiment was redesignated as the 111th Infantry and assigned to the 28th Division for service in World War I, participating in major campaigns such as the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. During World War II, the 111th Infantry was again federalized and served in the European Theater, including campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The regiment has continued its service as part of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, participating in various domestic and overseas missions into the 21st century. Sources: Wikipedia.
