Gulf Coast Army Air Force Training Center 1940–1947 (World War II) The Gulf Coast Army Air Force Training Center was established in 1942 as part of the United States Army Air Forces’ rapid expansion during World War II. Headquartered at Randolph Field, Texas, the center was responsible for overseeing the basic and advanced flight training of Army Air Forces pilots throughout the Gulf Coast region.
