74th Infantry Brigade 1940–1947 (World War II) The 74th Infantry Brigade was constituted as part of the Army of the United States during World War II. It was assigned to the 37th Infantry Division, which was composed primarily of Ohio National Guard units. The brigade participated in the division’s training and organizational activities during the early years of the war. However, as the Army transitioned to the triangular division structure in 1942, infantry brigades such as the 74th were inactivated and their functions absorbed by the division headquarters and regimental commands. The 74th Infantry Brigade did not see combat as a brigade during World War II and was inactivated as part of this reorganization.
