48th Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 48th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 48th Field Artillery and was later redesignated as the 48th Field Artillery Battalion on 1 October 1940. It was activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and assigned to the 7th Infantry Division. During World War II, the battalion participated in major campaigns in the Pacific Theater, including the Aleutian Islands, Eastern Mandates, Leyte, Ryukyus, and Southern Philippines. The battalion provided critical artillery support during amphibious assaults and ground operations, contributing to the division’s success in these campaigns. Following the end of hostilities, the 48th Field Artillery Battalion was inactivated on 20 July 1947 in Korea.
