The 45th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 45th Field Artillery and was assigned to the 9th Division. It was activated on 1 August 1940 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During World War II, the battalion participated in several campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After the war, the unit was inactivated on 20 November 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. It was later redesignated as the 45th Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 8th Infantry Division on 17 August 1950, and activated at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
