45 Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 45th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army and activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During World War II, the battalion was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division and participated in the European Theater of Operations. It saw action in several campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes-Alsace. The battalion provided critical artillery support during the division’s advance across France and into Germany. Following the end of hostilities, the 45th Field Artillery Battalion was inactivated on 20 October 1945 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
