Unit History

The 46th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 46th Field Artillery. It was activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During World War II, the battalion participated in several campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of the war, the unit was inactivated on 25 June 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. It was later redesignated as the 46th Field Artillery Battalion and assigned to the 5th Infantry Division on 15 July 1947, and reactivated at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
