15th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron 1940–1947 (World War II) The 15th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) was constituted on 15 June 1942 and activated on 1 July 1942 at Camp Campbell, Kentucky. The squadron was assigned to the 15th Cavalry Group and trained extensively in mechanized reconnaissance tactics. During World War II, the 15th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron deployed to the European Theater, landing in France in July 1944. The unit played a key role in the advance across France, participating in campaigns including Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The squadron was instrumental in screening advances, conducting reconnaissance, and providing security for larger formations. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the squadron was inactivated on 26 October 1945 in Germany.
