Unit History
The 12th Cavalry Regiment was constituted on 2 February 1901 in the Regular Army and organized on 11 February 1901 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The regiment served in the Philippines during the Philippine–American War and later participated in the Mexican Expedition. During World War II, the 12th Cavalry was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division and fought in the Pacific Theater, including campaigns in the Admiralty Islands, Leyte, and Luzon. After the war, the regiment served in the occupation of Japan. The 12th Cavalry Regiment has since undergone several reorganizations and redesignations, serving in various capacities including armored and mechanized roles during the Cold War, Vietnam War, and in more recent conflicts in the Middle East.
