Unit History

The 10th Infantry Regiment was first constituted on 3 March 1855 in the Regular Army and organized on 20 April 1855 at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. The regiment participated in numerous significant campaigns throughout its history, including the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection, World War I, and World War II. During the Civil War, the 10th Infantry fought in major battles such as Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. In the late 19th century, the regiment was involved in campaigns against Native American tribes in the western United States. The 10th Infantry also served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and in the Philippines during the Philippine Insurrection. In World War I, the regiment was assigned to the 14th Division but did not see combat. During World War II, the 10th Infantry was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division and participated in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe.
