Coastal Defense Sandy Hook 1914–1921 (World War I) Coastal Defense Sandy Hook was a key component of the Harbor Defenses of New York, located at the northern tip of the New Jersey coast. The site was equipped with a variety of heavy guns and mortars, manned by Coast Artillery Corps units responsible for defending against potential naval threats.
