Unit History

The 55th Cavalry Brigade was a unit of the United States Army National Guard. It was organized as part of the 23rd Cavalry Division, which was constituted in 1921 as a result of the National Defense Act of 1920. The 55th Cavalry Brigade was composed primarily of National Guard units from the states of Texas and New Mexico. Its primary mission was to provide cavalry support and reconnaissance capabilities. The brigade participated in various training exercises and maneuvers during the interwar period but was not mobilized for overseas service during World War II. In 1940, as the U.S. Army began to modernize and mechanize its forces, the 23rd Cavalry Division and its subordinate brigades, including the 55th Cavalry Brigade, were disbanded. Sources: Wikipedia.
