49th Division Artillery 1940–1947 (World War II) The 49th Division Artillery was constituted as part of the 49th Infantry Division, a National Guard formation activated for federal service during World War II. The division, including its artillery component, was mobilized in 1941 and trained extensively within the United States. Although the 49th Infantry Division did not deploy overseas or participate in combat operations during the war, its artillery units played a critical role in stateside training, readiness, and support missions. Following the end of World War II, the division and its artillery elements were inactivated as part of the postwar drawdown.
