The 403rd Infantry Regiment was constituted as part of the United States Army during World War II. It was assigned to the 102nd Infantry Division and activated on 15 September 1942 at Camp Maxey, Texas. The regiment participated in the European Theater of Operations, engaging in campaigns in Rhineland and Central Europe. Following the end of World War II, the 403rd Infantry Regiment was inactivated on 23 March 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. The unit has not been reactivated since its World War II service.
