Unit History

The 381st Infantry Regiment was constituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as part of the 96th Division. It was organized in December 1921 with headquarters at Boise, Idaho. The regiment was ordered into active military service on 15 August 1942 and reorganized at Camp Adair, Oregon. During World War II, the 381st Infantry Regiment participated in the campaigns of Leyte and Ryukyus in the Pacific Theater. After the war, the regiment was inactivated on 3 February 1946 at Camp Anza, California. It was later reactivated in the Organized Reserves on 10 January 1947 with headquarters at Boise, Idaho, and has since undergone several reorganizations and redesignations as part of the U.S. Army Reserve.
