Unit History

The 38th Infantry Regiment was first constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army and organized on 1 June 1917 at Syracuse, New York. The regiment served with distinction during World War I as part of the 3rd Division, participating in major campaigns including Aisne, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Champagne 1918, and Lorraine 1918. During World War II, the 38th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division and took part in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns.
