Unit History

The 37th Infantry Division was first organized in 1917 as part of the National Guard from Ohio and was activated for service in World War I. The division participated in several major campaigns in France, including the Meuse-Argonne and Ypres-Lys offensives. After World War I, the division was demobilized but was reorganized in the interwar period as part of the Ohio National Guard. During World War II, the 37th Infantry Division was federalized and served in the Pacific Theater. The division took part in significant operations in the Solomon Islands, including the Bougainville campaign, and later participated in the liberation of the Philippines, notably in the battles for Luzon and Manila. The division was recognized for its combat effectiveness and played a key role in several major engagements. After the war, the division returned to state control and was eventually inactivated in 1968 as part of a broader reorganization of the Army National Guard. Sources: Wikipedia.
